Still Obsessed...

I stumbled upon these two bands months ago, and I'm stilled obsessed over their sound.  Searching for new music is usually always hit or miss.  Every now and again I'll dedicate a day to it, and I'll either come out with very little of worth or I'll hit the jackpot.  Way back when, this was a really good jackpot kind of day.

{Ho Hey - The Lumineers}

{Lost in My Mind - The Head and the Heart}

I like my music a little bit folksy, but I think these are songs that a lot of people can get into.  I'm thinking I'm not the only one since "folk" has been taking over even in the mainstream with bands like Mumford and Sons.  It's great to finally see indie folk groups get some exposure, but a part of me kind of wishes they'd stay small enough to see at small gigs, yet also get big enough to see in my neck of the woods...I'll take my music in an intimate setting over a stadium any day of the week - I mean, who wouldn't?  Both videos have this amazing atmosphere too.  I'd kill to be at a party where they played.

Oh and lastly, it's important to note that The Head and the Heart have some amazing harmonies.  Lost in My Mind doesn't really showcase everyone's voice, but the rest of the trio definitely have some pipes too.  I'd suggest listening to Winter Song for an example.  I love Charity's crooning voice.

You can download 2 free songs from The Head and the Heart HERE {including Lost in My Mind}

Tea for Two

What's a tea party without this song?

They just don't make them like that anymore...

UK Delights - Music Mix

In honor of Ellie Goulding's awesome performance on Saturday Night Live this past Saturday, I've decided to share some of my favorite songs/artists from the UK.  If you haven't already realized, I'm heavily influence by the UK in numerous ways, and many of my current favorite artists, e.g. Ellie Goulding, Kate Nash, Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Eliza Doolittle, are all from Great Britain. There were a lot of other musical contenders as well, so it was really hard to narrow it down for the finished mix.  I left many artists that I love off the list just because they weren't going along with my current mood at the time.  Anyway, without further ado, here is my UK Delights mix, and I've also provided a video of Ellie's performance too in case you missed it.

I love how her live performances sound just like her album.  It's actually her voice and not some great production and computer work.

Enjoy,

A Royal Wedding

{photo of a young Kate Middleton via The Middleton Family Album}

Change in today's post, sorry.  I refrained so long from putting anything up on here about the royal wedding, but since I have a strong interest in nearly everything from the UK (especially the Royals), I just had to today.  The continuation and reveal of Friday's post, will occur tomorrow.

Anyway, if you didn't watch the wedding, I'm sure you still heard about it one way or another...it was pretty hard not to, unless you live under a rock.  It was one of the greatest weddings of our time, and some may still not care or get nearly as excited, but it was history in the making.  Plus, it is a rare occurrence on television these days to see a couple that actually does not shame the institution of marriage.  Whether it was Will beaming down at Kate and telling her she looked beautiful during the ceremony, Kate unable to contain her smile after the nuptials, or their two kisses on the balcony, you saw continual signs that the couple actually love each other.  To me, that's what made the wedding all the more special and why all eyes are and will continue to be on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

I dare anyone to say she did not look beautiful...

I'll now leave you with a video of the couple's wedding song: Your Song by Ellie Goulding (a version of Elton John's original).  I LOVE her and can't wait till Saturday when she appears as the musical guest on SNL!

Congrats to the happy couple!

Easter Parade

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as always.  This year I spent my holiday in a very low-key manner with just my immediate family, but we still ate some tasty grub and spent some quality time together.  We even popped in the movie Easter Parade for the occasion.
I've a BIG fan of old musicals, and at nearly 50 years old, Fred Astaire is still at the top of his game in this film.  I still can't get this song out of my head...

Wishing He Was Dead

I can't get enough of this video from The Like that appeared on my Spring music mix here.  I love how they've reinvented themselves and the old sound of their record.  The album was even recorded with 60's equipment.  Can't say many people do that anymore.  Here's Wishing He Was Dead by The Like :

Spring Music Mix

Before I really do leave you for the weekend, I want to give you a little music mix that I created a few weeks ago.  Now that Spring (or April rain showers) has finally commenced, I think this is the perfect time to share it.  It has a few 70's songs, hence part of the title.
 Enjoy,

Much Needed Music

So I dunno about you, but Mondays are the worst, and I always need a little push to get through the week.  If you're experiencing this dreary, rainy weather as I am today too, we need an extra dose of something good.  Music always seems to do the trick for me.  Listen along to one of the songs that can always brighten my day:

{Ain't No Mountain High Enough ~ Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell}
